Inside Drake University’s AI Program: A Conversation with the Professors Who Built It

Writer: Sarah BurtSarah Burt

AI is reshaping industries, education, and the way we work. But what does that actually mean for the next generation? I sat down with Chris Snider and Christopher Porter, the driving forces behind Drake University’s AI program, to talk about how they’re preparing students for an AI-powered future.

Chris Snider is an Associate Professor in Drake’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, teaching digital media strategies, social media, content marketing, and web design. He’s all about helping students and businesses navigate emerging digital tools—including generative AI—with a focus on hands-on learning and innovation.

Christopher Porter is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Co-Chair of the Math and Computer Science Department. He’s also the Director of Drake’s AI Program, an interdisciplinary initiative combining STEM, humanities, and business to explore AI’s societal and ethical impact. He teaches digital ethics, AI foundations, and intelligence and learning, ensuring students approach AI with both technical skills and critical thinking.

In this episode, we dig into how AI is reshaping education, what students need to know to stay ahead, and why AI literacy is essential in every industry. Whether you’re a student, business owner, or just AI-curious, this conversation is one you don’t want to miss.
